To all the faculty members who participated: thank you for your time, thoughtful engagement, and commitment to expanding access to genomics education. Your involvement is what drives our collective mission forward—empowering students from all backgrounds to participate in authentic scientific discovery.
This year’s workshop brought together a vibrant community of educators who are passionate about improving undergraduate STEM education through genomics. We are especially grateful to our two keynote speakers who helped spark deeper conversation and reflection:
- Dr. Shaun Mahony showed how neural networks can help us understand where transcription factors bind in the genome—by looking at both the DNA sequence and the surrounding chromatin environment.
- Dr. Marnie Gelbart of Personal Genetics Education & Dialogue (PGED) helped us explore the social and ethical dimensions of genetics education. She introduced free, ready-to-use classroom tools—including case studies and a conversation-based game—to help students consider how genomics intersects with everyday life and personal values.
As always, we are inspired by the passion and creativity of our GEP faculty network. Your dedication to your students and your craft continues to shape a more inclusive, thoughtful future for science education.
Thank you again for joining us—and for all that you do throughout the year.
