Midwest Regional Node Meeting – May 8, 2025

The Midwest Node hosted a virtual Student Research Symposium on Thursday, May 8, 2025 via Zoom. Nine undergraduate students presented their research on the Pathways and Parrot Projects, with six GEP faculty in attendance. This meeting provided an opportunity for students and faculty to connect through discussion of research projects and for faculty to plan for the future of the Node. Dr. Jennifer Mierisch and Dr. Sarah Justice, Midwest Node Co-Leaders, moderated the sessions.

The schedule for the meeting:

  • 6:00-6:10pm: Welcome and introductions
  • 6:10-7:10pm Student Talks took place in two Breakout Rooms

What worked well for your event that might help others plan similar events?

We used breakout rooms for 2 groups of student presentations and that worked well.

What would your node do differently based on your experiences?

We did not stipulate that presentations should be PowerPoint and in the future I would for the sake of being able to see details of projects better.

Southeast Regional Node Meeting – November 22, 2024

The Southeast Node Virtual Symposium on Friday, November 22, 2024, was a success, drawing over 40 attendees from three universities in the node. The event showcased original student research and fostered collaboration among students and faculty, reinforcing the node’s commitment to advancing genomics education and research.
