New Program Assistant
Hired

We’re happy to report that Amy Smith has been hired as GEP’s new Program Assistant. As a recent addition to the staff, Amy is quickly adapting to her role in coordinating logistical and administrative tasks for the GEP. She will help to organize collaborative meetings, both virtual and in-person, including making travel arrangements for participants and coordinating payments to vendors. Amy will also be responsible for registering members and/or their students for conferences supported by the Sarah Elgin Travel Award.

Amy is originally from Alabama and is the eldest of eleven children. She earned her Master’s in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from The University of Alabama (UA) and has taught English in Japan, China, and Afghanistan. She has traveled extensively and lived in Russia for four years. Immediately prior to joining the GEP staff, she taught for five years at the English Language Institute at UA where she also played a role in coordinating special programs for visiting scholars, such as Argentina Friends of Fulbright and Chiba (Japan) Nursing Students. In her free time, Amy loves traveling, baking, reading, and enjoying a good cup of coffee.
